Can you believe they want me to register my little man for kindergarten? I was reading the paper and there was a big advertisement. Was your child born in 2005? We welcome you to register him for kindergarten. Ontario is retarded and does things differently than the rest of Canada. They have two kindergardens. A junior and a senior kindergarten. I'm not sure why they have that extra year. Maybe so Ontarians can brag about how much smarter their children are than the rest of Canada. I think the whole system is ridiculous. If we lived in BC or Alberta he wouldn't be going until he was almost 5, which makes sense to me. If I register him, he will still be 3 when he goes, he will turn 4 a couple of months later but still. I couldn't help feeling sorry for the kids entering this year who were obviously still 3. They were barely out of diapers and ridiculously small. One little boy was so scared, I thought he might break down and cry in front of the crowd. What happened to our kids just being kids? They are only little once. I guess you have probably figured out that I won't be registering him this year.
So again, this past Friday I picked up the paper to browse the grocery flyers for the sales before I headed out shopping. HAPPY THANKSGIVING was written in big bold letters.
Crap. I totally forgot about Thanksgiving.
"Hey Terry, did you forget what next week is?"
"Uh what?"
"Thanksgiving!"
"Crap"
He obviously forgot too.
So that means a much larger shop this week. I headed out to the grocery store and picked up everything we needed and then ended up staring into a freezer of turkeys.
Just like everything else it seems, turkeys have gone up in price this year. The cheapest one I can find is $30.
I'm feeling cheap and wondering if one of the other stores has a better deal. I decide to wait on the turkey and head home.
I'm unpacking the groceries and Terry is just looking around for a turkey.
"Where's the turkey?"
I explain my theory.
"If you don't get a turkey today, we are going to end up with one that is too small or one that is way to big. You should go back and get the turkey."
"I'm not going back, I just got home."
"Well okay then" he says.
Okay, so I went back, because he was probably right (don't tell him that) and I started to panic a little and it was a good thing too because there was only one left.
I plunked it in the freezer and breathed a sigh of relief that the shopping was done and Terry was happy.
Want to know how I know that?
Because all day he kept opening the freezer and staring at that turkey, with a ridiculous smile on his face.
It's funny how turkey can make a man a little crazy.

I always forget that your Thanksgiving is a month ahead of ours. And I am so hungry for a good turkey meal!!! Glad you got yours!! ;)
I know... William will be 3 when he begins JK too! But I will register him because their school has split grades and Noah will be in SK so they'll be together! I'm trusting that will be a good thing! :)
I grabbed my turkey yesterday too but for me, it wasn't even a question. I saw it, grabbed it, and breathed a sigh of relief... mine comes in a box, is pre-stuffed, and needs only to be brushed with oil!!!! No mess, no fuss! Okay, maybe I'd go to more trouble if it wasn't just Marc and I and the kids! And Marc is so used to my cooking by now, he's just happy to have something on his plate that wasn't ordered in!!!!
Happy Thanksgiving, Leah! I'm off to buy a pumpkin pie... ;)
WTF? Wade was born in 2005 and he isn't even potty trained! Unless they intend to do that for me, because yeah I'd send him. Damn this kid is stubborn.
You wacky Canadians.
man! Your freezer is packed!!! We are not big turkey eaters here, and no Thanksgiving...so don't send Terry down. LOL to only small and big left...always the way. I do that though....troop around everywhere but always end back at the first place. Got to learn to follow my intuition.
As for your little munchkin - ARE THEY NUTS??? - he is 3!!!!!!!! Well you know my thoughts on this based on my last LO. Katie is December and will not go to school until she is 5! (they start in January)
Being an old teacher the later the better...for socilisation reasons at both ends...being a littlie and a senior.
Happy Thanksgiving!! I think Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday since it revolves around food!
And Junior Kindergarten! Too funny. We have Pre-Kindergarten. I don't think I'll be sending Rosie because it is half-days and I have no idea what I'll do with her the other half. The public school she'll attend is in a different town from where we work too...Right now is is in day care/preschool and I haven't decided when to put her in Kindergarten since her birthday is ON the cutoff date.
Now I'm hungry for Turkey!!!
Laura
It seems like every year they want the kids to start school earlier and earlier...I say use your gut instinct and do what you want to do...I always felt pushed that Michael needed preschool or this and that...I wanted my son to be a kid and have fun before the seriousness of school started. He started Kindergarten this year and seems to be doing okay. He's learning and it only took 2 weeks for him to get over leaving me. I could have put him in Pre-K at 4 yrs but I decided to hold off and so glad I did...Your the Mom and you know best. Good luck!
As to Terry and the turkey he's too funny. But hey I'm the same way...Thanksgiving isn't proper without a turkey. I was shocked as to how much it was too, Yikes!! The price of everything is going up it's ridiculous, now to bad our paychecks didn't go up too, ha ha ha...Oh by the way you want to come organize my freezer, lol...Yours looks so much neater than mine :o)
ROFLOL At your ridiculously packed freezer. It looks just like mine!
All of my kids started school at 3. Brandon will too. Here in La. it seems like if you don't start them early, then they are behind if they just start regular kinder. They expect the kids to know how to spell and write their full name and be beginning readers when they start. I think it's INSANE. I went ahead and put mine in pre-school because I worried. I don't know if I'll send Bubba to preschool as he's my last baby and I want him to be a baby as long as he can. I may just tutor him at home!
Hugs chickie!
